Today’s Feature Friday member of the week is Mark Alvarado!!!
mark-a
Mark is that cool looking dude with the slick hair that never gets out of place that squats in the same corner every day, with the most beautiful form while wearing a Batman shirt. You’ll never hear him complain (out loud at least ;)) and unless he’s got something on his agenda he does not miss a day. Thank you for all you do Mark!
What do you do for a living?
MA: First and foremost, I am a husband and father to my lovely family.  On the outside, I also work for a software company where I help our existing customers renew their service contracts.  I help keep the relationship going between the company and our customers.
What motivates you to come to crossfit every day?
MA: Crossfit is my destress session during the week.  Work can be a bit stressful at times and crossfit helps me get my mind off of those stresses.  It allows me to focus on me for 1 hour a day and helps me to reset.
How has CrossFit changed your life if at all?
MA: Crossfit has taught me that with a bit of work, patience and dedication, you can achieve your goals no matter how far fetched they seem at the beginning.
If you could describe Bedlam using 3 words what would they be?
MA: Challenging, Passionate, Supportive
What are your favorite and least favorite movements and why?
MA: Pullups, double unders and cleans are my favorite movements.  I feel those are what I am most consistent with.  Thrusters, overhead squats and snatches are my least favorite.  I’m not sure if I have a real reason why, other than they just suck.
My least favorite moment is when I miss a PR.  My favorite moment is when I actually achieve it.
What advice would you give to someone thinking about starting crossfit?
MA: “Pain is weakness leaving the body!!”  Haha, just kidding.  I probably wouldn’t say that.  However, I would tell them that if you can get past the first week or weeks of crossfit, then the rest is oddly addicting.  Once you start noticing the changes in your body and how you feel about yourself, you won’t want to stop.  Never quit, never doubt your abilities, believe in your coaches and most importantly believe in yourself.  You get out of it what you put into it.  It’s all up to you.
